I think everyone has certain holiday movies that always make us stop and watch, even if we've seen them hundreds of times.
My top five favorites are:
1. Christmas Vacation
I love this movie for its irreverent look at family life around the Christmas holiday. It's a lot truer to life than most of us would want to admit. Favorite scene: When the squirrel gets loose in the house.
2. It's a Wonderful Life
Who doesn't love this classic about a man who thinks his life isn't worth anything, but a bumbling angel shows him a different story? Favorite Scene: When George tells old man Potter off.
3. A Muppet Christmas Carol
This movie appeals to the kid in me. It has great songs, and one of the best actors to play Ebenezer Scrooge - Michael Caine. He plays it straight and true to the story, while the Muppets do their thing. Favorite Scene: When the Ghost of Christmas Past takes Scrooge on a Christmas Eve visit to his old employer Fozziwig. The party guests include all the Muppet performers.
4. White Christmas
The best things happen while you're dancing to old favorites by Irving Berlin. Favorite Scene: All of them with Danny Kaye, a master comedian and not a bad dancer, either.
5. A Christmas Story
Christmas through the eyes of a kid who only wants one present, a Red Ryder BB-Gun. "You'll put your eye out, kid," everyone says to him. Favorite Scene: When Ralphie's mother makes him put on the pink bunny pajamas that his Aunt Clara sent him for Christmas. His dad's response, "He looks like a deranged Easter bunny."
